As the end of the rugby season has come and gone, time for reflection is upon me. From the beginning of the season where we started with 10 rookies. Some of the rookies disappeared, but those who remained helped to ensure our team stayed strong, many times out numbering the veterans at practice. Going to Westerns and coming out second (with the number one team ending up being the number 2 team in the country for Division II Women Club.) A long season with more wins than loses, with more smiles than tears. Ending on a high note.
The high note may not seem so big but is very reflective of where the team has come. Our last game was canceled the Monday before we were suppose to play. Since we had been telling all our friends and fans about the game, we didn't want to disappoint them. With the help from a few rival players (who we also consider friends) and players who had wanted to play this season but life told them differently, we were able to put together a inter-squad scrimmage. Granted it wasn't 15 v 15, but 12 v12 isn't too bad. A fun time with plenty of laughter and friendly rivalry, just to ensure our fans were not disappointed.
Most teams would have just canceled the game and put forth an apology, the fact that we love the sport and enjoy each others company is a wonderful feeling and great way to end the season.

Giving Back
As the holiday season approaches (or is actually here) it is nice to take time to give back to others. A simple, yet fun way that some of the members of the "team" gave back was to create a gingerbread creation for a local fundraiser. This annual event allows individuals, youth, and organizations to create a gingerbread house, building, structure, or what ever other creation they can come up with. The end result is a auction of the entries with proceeds going to the local Big Brother Big Sister chapter. An evening of sugar, laughter, and creative juices was the end result. We aren't sure how much we helped raise, but it was still fun.
